Equality Arlington Vows to Continue Standing With the LGBTQIA+ Community

Members, Allies, and Friends,

As you have likely seen, Donald Trump has been projected to win the White House and enter his term with control of the U.S. Senate. For many of us in the LGBTQIA+ community and our allies, this is not the result we were hoping for and is one that raises many questions about what this means for our safety and our future.

We at Equality Arlington share these concerns and acknowledge that the road to liberation and thriving for queer folks is harder now than it would have been with a different outcome. But in light of this, we want to assure our Arlington community that we intend to continue fighting for our well-being in every aspect of our lives. Our tools are more than our executives. Our community is more than our congress. We have lived and loved and thrived in hostile environments for as long as humanity has existed, and we have no intentions of giving up on us.

We’re grateful that Arlington elected county board and school board candidates who are committed to fighting for queer folks of all ages and backgrounds, and we look forward to working with the county and our community to continue making Arlington a place where everyone can thrive no matter who they love, how they love, or how they present themselves. No force has been able to get rid of LGBTQIA+ people in the past, and no force ever will. The fight will never be easy, but it will be worth it, and Equality Arlington will be alongside you.

Thank you for your continued support.
